BSR Solutions builds Health and Human Services Practice

BSR Solutions has succeeded in developing a growing health and human services practice having completed vital assignments for the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, NSW Health, the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and the Australian General Practice Network. John Lewis, Director, BSR Solutions said:
"We appeal to the health sector because we have skilled, experienced consultants who have worked at senior executive level in the health and human services sector. They can also see that we have a strong clinical background in addition to in-depth strategic information management and public policy skills. Having experience in applying information and communications technology to achieve large scale reform in the health and human services sector, clinicians and other practitioners can see we have street credibility. This is something the big consulting firms often lack."

Examples of BSR Solutions assignments in 2006 and 2007 include:

Ambulatory Care Current State Assessment - NSW Health 2006
This assignment reviewed the effectiveness of processes to collect performance indicators from Hospital Outpatients and Emergency Departments. The results of the project enabled NSW Health to identify key benchmarks and realistic targets for improving performance management across Hospital outpatients and emergency departments.

General Practice Quality Management - Australian General Practice Network 2006
The Australian General Practice Network and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing engaged BSR Solutions to develop a feasibility study for an information system that would improve the performance of General Practice in managing chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. The assignment involved a national consultation with Divisions of General Practice, a cost benefit analysis and a requirements specification for the information system.

Clinical Information Access Program Review - NSW Health 2007
NSW Health engaged BSR Solutions to review the cost effectiveness of the current contractual arrangements to supply clinicians across NSW Health with evidence based information on clinical best practice. This information comes from on-line journals and clinical databases such as MIMS (for prescribing). The assignment recommended the most cost-effective ways of sourcing the information.

Access Points Review - NSW Department of Health and Ageing 2007
This project to improve access for clients to the range of community care services that help frail aged and disabled people stay at home and active in the community, is a collaborative project between NSW Health, Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and NSW Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care. BSR Solutions mapped the current pathways into community care and recommended the most cost-effective ways to improve access for clients into the complex community care system.

ACAT Review - NSW Health 2007
NSW Health is currently reviewing the Aged Care Assessment Program. This program enables frail-aged and other people who find difficulty managing at home to be assessed for packages that help them stay at home e.g. nursing, domestic assistance, or to be eligible to go into residential care e.g. a hostel or nursing home. BSR Solutions is working with NSW Health to identify ways to improve the program so it is more effective and consistent across New South Wales.
